Merthyr Town FC is a Community Mutual Football Club based in South Wales. The Club has been reformed by its supporters in order to preserve semi-professional football in our town.
The supporters and more importantly our players & management will be undertaking a run or walk from our leisure centre down the Taff Trail to Abercanaid and return to raise money for our club and also for the Gol Charity.
All funds will be shared 50/50.
Our football club is committed to ensuring that Penydarren Park benefits our whole community through its facilities in the future and that is one of the main objectives of the Gol charity to realise that football can be a catalyst for benefit in all countries world-wide.
Everyone taking part will have different abilities therefore as well as the main race we are having a prize for the first dog-walker home, the best decorated pram or pushchair and of course fancy dress.

'The players are looking forward to the minithon, and there is a book being run on who will be the slowest in our squad. I am having a special strapping made following an injury to ensure that I can compete, and will return to training to prepare for the event shortly. It seems odd to hear Merthyr mentioned in the same breath as Sydney, Boston USA, Turin and Manchester but we look forward to competing against them all as the 'underdogs'.
I am delighted though that the Club is supporting Gol which has an excellent record at helping underprivileged children at home and abroad. As a father myself I realise it is important that we provide help to children to improve their quality of life. Since the Club has reformed we are keen to support community events such as these, and I am delighted that the whole squad will be taking part."
